Peach Top - NewLook 6808

Introducing my first finish for April 2014!! I was finished with this first thing this morning but had a hard time getting pictures. Lol, I'm a "bring the hair to the front" sort of girl and... well... you just can't really see what a top looks like when there's all that hair in the way. So, outside we went this afternoon and here's the proof... wrinkles and all. :)

My new peach top in need of an iron!

Isn't this a perfect color for Spring? As you can see behind me... Spring has not quite sprung yet on our mountain. Everything is still drab.... except for my new top. Perhaps it will encourage some flowers to pop up. :)

I had made this NewLook 6808 top before and loved it. Unfortunately, I haven't really been able to wear it because it's made of white linen... and I'm very messy. Why I went with white, I have no idea. Anyway, while sorting my fabrics this year I remembered how much I love the color of this peach embroidered shirting (from when I made my peplum top) and paired it with this pattern.

I went with a straight size 12, in view B again. I wanted this to be a very versatile piece. I can dress this up or down, however I like. The pattern was a cinch to make up, just like I remembered from my first try.

The only alterations that I made were to line the entire front piece, because this shirting is very thin, and use binding instead of facings. I go back and forth with facings. I really like how they look on a finished garment but don't always like how they wear. This time it wouldn't have mattered if I had wanted a facing or not. After cutting the main body pieces and sleeve, I was left with a small pile of scrap...... for my scrap stash. Also, I did a single layer sleeve with a hemmed edge.

I really like NewLook patterns. They seem to be designed for my exact body type. I never need to make any fitting adjustments.... and I love that!

I'm entering this piece in the Challenge Create - Nature Inspired as well as the Sewing Double challenge (since it's the second time that I've made this top pattern). Here's my first attempt of this pattern.

Also, you can read my original review, with modification, on this pattern over at PatternReview.com. In addition to those, this top is part of my Peach & Teal Outfit sewing goals for April.

I hope you are getting along well with your April sewing plans! Best of luck to you. :)

    1. Thanks Natalie. Yes, I made the skirt also. It's coral pink linen done up in NewLook 6344. If you are interested, there are a lot more images of that skirt in this post: http://sterlingthimble.blogspot.com/2013/05/coral-pink-linen-skirt.html

  9. It is official, this top is too cute. I am wondering the sizing (read that, for a big girl like myself). I'll look it up and see. It seems I am enjoying fitted tops with darts this season.

Thank you for sharing this project at MAGAM.

    Cheers,
